The brilliance of Time

There can be found a brilliance of time at an instant, or at any instant. Time passes without traversing back ever. It is a personality which strictly adheres to a saying which goes:
"...In matter of style, stay with the current - In matters of principles, stand like a Rock!"

I think to exemplify Time from Rock is not a quality thing I am doing. Rocks are of various natures, types, and are found in many different states. Whereas Time itself has no form, it is not "found" instead it is always there - no matter how hard you could try to move it an inch from it's position - it wont.

This adherence to principles in a simplest and the strongest form actually is Time's brilliance. Withstanding without any fear - Time keeps relaying moments, every instant it delivers us an opportunity: a spark for the inner fuel we have in us - till we die, we all have this fuel, the fuel of Thought and Action.

The relativity between thoughts and actions can be proven by a saying; 'Inaction saps the vigors of mind'. Thoughts and Actions ssare very tightly coupled.

Mental Activity for the Old Aged

I had two electronic conversations with acquaintances, in which I explained them how to get in touch with parents and grand-parents and what effects it can have on OUR lives. Just now, I was reading a memoir of Abulkhair Kashfi, written by his son S. Abu Ahmed Akif, in which he mentioned something which is related to my discussions, but he tells of the affect that They (parents and grandparents - old aged people) have over this activity.

Mr. Akif writes about Dr. Abulkhair Kashfi:

Seekers of his comments, recommendations and other manner of professional assistance always got through to him, and perhaps fortunately so because nowadays we are told by doctors that such mental activity not only enables old people to continue being and considering themselves useful members of society, but also prevents the dreaded mind-diseases like Alzheimers and senile dementia.
So now I can say that by this activity of talking to the elderly, we are saving them from danger. :)
Talking and discussing is actually a mental activity for the old aged.

Time Quadrants

STM provided me with a powerful way to lead life. Following is one of the concepts of Time Quadrants. It is also covered in one of Stephen Covey's books on self management.

I typed it as an email to a friend, and simply pasting my email here:

Time Quadrants:
We can map our whole life into four quadrants. Why should we do it? Because if we don't, we are unplanned, and "Failing to plan is planning to fail".

IMPORTANT

NOT-IMPORTANT

URGENT

Q1

Q2

NOT URGENT

Q3

Q4


It is important to know things that are Not Important to us. Because we have to let go of them from our routines.

Q1 - Important & Urgent:
Receiving a phone call is a Q1 activity, or simply a Q1. But remember that the phone call ITSELF if not your Q1, it is an External Q1, unanticipated, something you cannot Plan. But you can plan to receive a phone call or to let your phone ringing (if you have some more prior Q1 - like while praying we are in a Q1 state, we cannot divert our attentions to something else).

Q1s are usually stress zones, and minimal things should be done in Q1. During stress, brain secrets cortisol - a chemical that affects brain cells (there is long detail of affects of stress on human body). We should reduce Q1s so much, so that Q2 gets more time.

Q2 - Important but Not Urgent:
Preparing for an exam is an Q2. If this Q2 is planned well, you will never panic before exam, never get stressed, and the exam will go better as well - good results!
Q2 is the quality zone of our life. We plan, think, and act according to that well-defined plan, yielding us good results. This is where I think you should put your relationship... Planned - Well thought.

Focus more and more over Q2s.

"The degree of success of a person is directly proportional to the number of hours he / she puts in Q2 activities in a day."

If Q2s are not focused upon, they become Q1s. For example, if you don't prepare for exams, eventually you will have to prepare in haste which will result in bad preparation and thus bad results. Usually, this happens. We procrastinate things, so much so that they one day come up to our face and we then have to do it under stress.

Q3 - Urgent but Not Important:
Receiving a silly friend's phone call who is very excited about his/her exam results and have already called 4-5 times... it is urgent to attend this call, but not really important... i mean not Really Really important... We can't do much about Q3s, they are usually External.. but we can prioritize Q3s.

Q4 - Not Urgent and Not Important:
TV! Chatting! Day-Dreaming! Movie watching!... Q4 is deadly... it derails us from our main target, it demotivates us and we do not even get to know that we are Demotivated. The best thing to do for Q4s is to drop them as much as possible.

  • Q1s must be minimized
  • Q2s must be focused more and given more time
  • Q3s must be filtered
  • Q4s must be dropped as quickest as possible
Now, you can think of your Q1, Q2, Q3 and Q4 activities.

This will help you get some peace/sanity. Practice the time quadrants as you feel like.

Agha Hasan Abedi



I was posting something different, when I saw a community on Faceboook about Agha Hasan Abedi. I got full with sharp colors, and thus ended with the following posts on the community:

Wikipedia, and other sources, say that his bank (BCCI) was involved in fraudulent money transfers and that the bank was used to transfer money to terrorists in the Middle East, but all this was a plot to destroy a bank which was able to run a whole country at one point in time. BCCI gave loans to the Pakistan Government when it was in high need of monetary help and no one was willing to provide support to it. The agencies of the West clearly understood the fact that the Middle Eastern nations can become independent of monetary help from West in case this bank develops at this pace - resulting in a conspiracy to destroy the bank.

Quoting Wikipedia, BCCI expanded from 19 branches in five countries in 1973 to 27 branches in 1974, to 108 branches in 1976, with assets growing from $200 million to $1.6 billion.

The Gold Medal at the National University of Computer and Emerging Sciences (FAST), awarded to the highest CGPA Holder of the batch, is known as the Agha Hasan Abedi Gold Medal.

KARACHI, Aug. 5: Agha Hasan Abedi, the founder of the collapsed BCCI,
died on Saturday at Agha Khan University Hospital. Mr Abedi was
suffering from multiple ailments, including brain trauma which he
suffered in February, 1988 after a heart attack. He died of a cardiac
arrest.

Agha Hasan Abedi became an international figure in banking when the BCCI
he had founded on Sept. 21,1972, collapsed on July 29, 1991, with
serious monetary ramifications all over the world. The bank collapsed
when Mr Abedi was no longer associated with its operations. After the
collapse of the BCCI, the US authorities wanted him for investigations
but the Nawaz Sharif government declined to extradite him to face
charges in America.

Mr Abedi founded the BCCI with Bank of America NT&SA as one of the major
share-holders and became BCCI's first president. In addition to being a
member of the board of directors, he was a director of BCCI Holdings
(Luxembourg) SA.

Agha Hasan Abedi was born on May 14, 1922 in Lucknow, India and was
educated at the University of Lucknow from where he got his MA in
English Literature and LLB degrees. After completing his education, Mr
Abedi started his career in banking in 1946 with Habib Bank in India, as
a senior selective service officer. During his 12 years with that bank
he held several managerial positions and then as executive responsible
for business development at the head office.

In 1959 he founded United Bank in Pakistan and became its first general
manager in addition to being a director. He was later designated as
president and managing director. He was finally elected chairman of the
board while at the same time holding office of the president.
